What are the risks for a tattoo?

  • Follow a simple but strict procedure, defined by French law since 2008;
  • Get tattooed by a professional, declared and trained in hygiene and health conditions;
  • Observe certain precautions during the healing of the tattoo.

Inappropriate or insufficient conditions* increase this risk. The scientific data then establishes the possibility of contamination by HBV and HCV. The possibility of transmission of HIV seems very unlikely (fragility of the virus in the open air) No case has ever been observed. Infections due to other micro-organisms can more rarely occur such as herpes viruses or papillomavirus (responsible for warts). Allergic reactions (particularly to tattoo pigments) and pathological scarring constitute, on predisposed persons, the most frequently reported minor side effect to date.
